Next class is Saturday - July 19, 2008 at 8:30am.
Membership is a privilege... and a responsibility.
Parkway Baptist Church does not receive members through a Sunday morning invitation. We want to hear the testimony of every candidate for membership and we want them to fully understand and agree with our basic beliefs, values and governance. We want to get to know you and we want you to get to know us.
Discovering Parkway
To facilitate this, we have a "Discovering Parkway" class, taught by Pastor Jerry, that is available to all prospective members. The entire five-part class is held in one seminar on one Saturday per month. In general the class presents the beliefs, values, philosophy, ministry and governance of our congregation.
The first session sets forth a case for meaningful church membership, discussing conversion, baptism and the Lord's Supper.
The second session presents our understanding of the believer's sanctification (personal growth in holiness), through his or her union with Christ in death, burial, ressurection and enthronement.
The third session explains the values on which Parkway's ministries are based.
The fourth session discusses the difference between our gathering and our going, based on the Great Commandment of Luke 10:27 and the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20.
The fifth and final session explains our form of governance: plural-elder-led congregationalism. It sets forth one biblical case for plural-elder leadership, non-authoritative "deacon" service and the context of congregationalism.
Following that class, you will have an informal Q&A with one of our elders. After this, if you believe that it is God's will for you to join our fellowship, you will be presented to our congregation by a church elder.
